Ancilla Hospital, Ihitte: Private hospital. The Ancilla Hospital and Maternity is situated at Ezinihitte-Mbaise in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government, Imo State. It was established in 1986 as a mobile clinic from Queen of Peace Hospital, Amumara in Mbaise, which was named HHCJ Comprehensive Centre and Holistic focus. Ancilla Hospital Ihitte is a mission hospital owned and managed by the Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ).
It was registered as Ancilla Hospital, Ihitte in 2004 and has the capacity of taking in twenty-five (25) to 35 beds 2004 in a poor rural environment. It serves eleven (11) villages of low-income people and beyond. This affects the running of the hospital as some tend to ask for free treatment.
It started operating on a 24-hour basis on March 3, 2014. The Ancilla Hospital and Maternity is a licensed hospital with facility code 16/04/1/2/2/0002 and is registered as a secondary health care centre in Nigeria. The Nigerian Ministry of Health has granted permission for The Ancilla Hospital and Maternity to operate. It has been authorised to operate as a secondary health care centre. The hospital has 16 beds and provides a wide range of services, such as gynaecology, antenatal care (ANC), immunisation, HIV/AIDS services, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, hepatitis, child survival, accidents and emergency, nutrition, health education and community mobilisation, and infectious diseases.
In 2012, an Eye Centre from Ancilla Hospital Ihitte started, which is Ancilla Hospital Eye Centre Ihitte.
Due to financial constraints to build a permanent hospital, it was decided to restructure the uncompleted convent building to serve as a hospital to accommodate the health needs and challenges of the people of Ihitte.
